When should I use Protected Words?

By default, Hawksearch will include stemmed matches in results. For example, if a user searches for "accounting," matches for "account" will also be returned - but if you want searches for "accounting," to only return exact matches for this, then you would add "accounting" as a Protected Word:

Another example would be searching for "inspire" and "inspirational"- these are stemmed terms and they will be combined in results. However, if "inspirational" is a top keyword, then you would want to add "inspirational" as a Protected Word to return matches on this term alone.

One other example would be a stemmed search for "read" would return matches on "readers," "reading," etc. But if you have "book readers" in your data, then you may want to add "readers" to the Protected Words list to ensure that searches for "(book) readers" will be returned when this term is entered.
