Recommendation Visibility Rules User Guide

The Recommendation Visibility Rules feature allows you to block certain products from being returned in the Recommendation zones. These can be configured as Global Rules that will apply to all recommendation zones or as Conditional Rules that require specific user action to hide items.




Navigating to the Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration Page


1) Click on "Workbench" in top-navigation.

2) Choose "Recommendations" in left-navigation and select Recommendation Visibility from the list of subcategories.

3) To navigate to the Global Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration page, click on the "Global Rules" button or use the "Add/Edit Global Rules" link.

4) To navigate to the Conditional Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration page, click on the Conditional Rules button or use the "Add/Edit Conditional Rules" link.




Global Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration

You can use Global Recommendation Visibility Rules to hide specified items in recommendation zones site wide. On the "Global Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration" page you can view a list of existing rules, edit and/or create new rules.

1) The "Name" search field allows you to search your list of rules using all or part of the name of the rule.

2) You can also search through existing rules using previously assigned tags by typing the tag you are looking for into the "Tags" field. 

3) Once you have entered your preferred parameters, click on the "Search" button to view your results.

4) The edit a rule, click the "Pencil" icon. To copy a rule, click on the "Paper" icon. To delete a rule, click on the "Trashcan" icon. To change the order of the rules, click on the "Double Arrow" icon and drag the rule to the desired position. Hovering over the "Information" icon, will display the criteria of the rule. Hovering over the "?" icon will display when the rule was created and last modified.

5) To add a new rule, click "Add Rule."




Creating/Editing a Global Rule

General

1) Start by entering a name and/or description for the rule in the "Name" field.

2) "Start Date" and "End Date" will determine the time frame that the rule will be in effect. To select or edit the date, click on the calendar icon. To select or edit the time, click on the clock icon.

3) You may choose to assign tag words for internal use that will easily identify and locate rules in the future. To add tag words, simply type the terms you wish to associate with the rule into the "Tags" field.

Selecting Items to Hide

Use the query builder to set conditions that will define the items you would like hidden in the Recommendation zones.

4) Select if ANY or ALL of the conditions must be met in order for the products to be hidden.

5) Using the first drop down, specify the attribute you would like to use to identify the products you would like to hide.

6) Select an operator that will indicate how the attribute value should be treated. Note that using "is in" or "is not in" will allow you to enter multiple values of the same attribute when separating using commas.

7) Enter the value that complete the condition by typing into the text box.

8) To add a sub condition, click the ">" button to the right of the condition. To delete a condition, click the "-" button to the right of the condition.

9) To add a condition, click the "[+] Add Condition" button.

10) To preview the items that your conditions will hide, click on the "Calculate & Show Matches" button. Keep in mind that this pop-out window will only show the top 30 items pulled by the configured conditions.

11) Save your changes by clicking the orange "Save" button.




Conditional Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration


You can use Conditional Recommendation Visibility Rules to hide specified items in Recommendation zones based on a specified trigger. On the Conditional Recommendation Visibility Rules Administration page, you can view a list of existing rules, edit and/or create new rules.


1)The "Name" search field allows you to search your list of rules using all or part of the name of the rule.

2) You can also search through existing rules using previously assigned tags by typing the tag you are looking for into the "Tags".

3) To view the rules that have been set to "Stop Further Rules Processing", you can use the "Is Last" sort option. 

4) Once you have entered your preferred parameters, click on the "Search" button to view your results.

5) The edit a rule, click the "Pencil" icon. To copy a rule, click on the "Paper" icon. The delete a rule, click on the "Trashcan" icon. To change the order of the rules, click on the "Double Arrow" icon and drag the rule to the desired position. Hovering over the "information" icon will display the criteria of the rule. Hovering over the "?" icon will display when the rule was created and last modified.

6) To add a new rule, click "Add Rule."

1) If you choose to Stop Further Rules Processing, any rules that fall below this rule on the Recommendation Visibility Administration page that would otherwise be in effect will be turned off.

2) Choose if "ANY" or "ALL" of the conditions must be met in order for the Recommendation Visibility rule to trigger.

3) Using the first drop down, specify the context that will determine if this rule will take effect.

4) Select an operator that will indicate how the context value should be treated. Note that using "is in" or "is not in" will allow you to enter multiple values of the same attribute when separating using commas.

5) Enter the value that completes the condition by typing into the text box.

6) To add a sub condition, click the ">" button to the right of the condition. To delete a condition, click the "-" button to the right of the condition.

7) To add a condition, click the "[+] Add Condition" button.

8) Save all of your changes by clicking the orange "Save" button.
