Content Items
Live customer searches provide you with the most important clues to your customers' interests. Once your customer types in a search word, you have an opportunity to communicate with them about their expressed interest. One of the best ways to communicate is to offer them a targeted ad that relates to the search term they have entered. This guide will show you how to upload Content Items ads and link them to Campaigns so that they may be displayed based on the information your customers are searching.
Navigating the Content Items Administration Home Page
1) To navigate to the "Content Items Administration" page, click on the "Workbench" tab in the top navigation.
2) Then, select "Merchandising" from the left navigation and choose "Content Items" from the subcategories.
3) The first search field allows you to search for the name of your item. If you know the name, or a keyword from the name, type it into the "Name" field.
4) You can also conduct a search based on the width of the item. This can help narrow a search when you do not have the name of the item. It can also help you find images that fit into a particular slot.
5) You can search using tags by typing in a tag that you've previously applied to an item into the "Tags" field.
6) The final way to search for an item is by entering the date that the item was published.
7) When viewing your search results, you have the option to display the image in the list of results. This option is turned "off" by default to increase the loading speed of the page. However, it may be helpful to have a list of images when you are navigating the list for a specific item or look.
8) You also have the option to control how the Content Items list is displayed using the "Sort by" drop-down menu. The options include: name, type, width, height, and publish date.
9) You can reorder the search results by ascending or descending order by clicking the arrow next to the "Sort by" selection.
10) The "Export" button allows you to generate a report containing the results yielded from your search fields. If you have no search fields filled in, the "Export" button will generate a report to download all existing Content Items.
11) Once you have added all search criteria, click the "Search" button to see your results.
12) If you would like to edit one of the Content Items, you can do so by clicking the pencil icon. To delete a Content Item, click the trash can icon. To copy a Content Item, click the paper icon.
13) For bulk processing, use the check box to select individual items. To select all, use the check box at the top.
14) To bulk process selected items, use the "Actions" dropdown.
15) To add a new Content Item, click on the "Add New Content Item" link.
Adding a Content Item
Clicking the "Add Content Item" link will take you to a screen that allows you to set the parameters for your new Content Item.
1) First, add the name of the item in the "Name" field.
2) Next, select whether the new item will include a new image or if it will be a custom file (see examples below). The majority of items will use the "Image" option.
3) When you select the "Image" option, the dimensions will default to the dimensions used in the uploaded image. These will appear after the file has been uploaded.
4) In order to select an image from your hard drive, click the "Select file..." link to trigger your computer's file manager (see example below). Select your file.
5) Add the alt tag that you would like to have appear when someone mouses over the image. This is text that a search engine can detect, so you may want to include any text that appears in your image in the alt tag.
6) If you would like the item to navigate to a specific page, you can include the forwarding address in this field.
7) The target field is only needed if you add a Forward URL. It allows you to choose whether the forward URL should open in the same window, or if it should open up in a new window.
8) You may choose to add tag words to the item in order to make it more accessible to search in the future.
9) Next, determine whether this item will be "Mobile" by using the toggle.
10) Here, you are able to associate this item to a campaign or campaigns. You may also do this action in the "Campaigns Edit" page.
11) When you have finished creating the item, click the "Save" button.
Uploading a New Content Item Image
When you click "Select File," you will trigger your computer's file manager to display. This will allow you to navigate to the location where your image is stored in order to select it.
Creating a Custom Content Item
If you choose to create a custom Content Item, you will have more editing control over the image. This feature is typically used by those who have skills in HTML coding.
1) Enter a name for your new item.
2) Select "Custom" under "Item Type" in order to change the display of required fields.
3) Next, specify whether you would like to have tracking on the item using the toggle in the "Enable Tracking" field.
4) You can upload images and text using the WYSIWYG tool as if you were using Microsoft Word or Word Press. For more advanced HTML users, click the "</>" icon in the upper right corner to drop HTML code.
5) You may choose to add tag words to the item in order to make it more accessible to search in the future.
6) Use the toggle to indicate whether the item "Is Mobile?". If this doesn't work ensure these DIV tags are inserted in the html of your page
7) Lastly, click the "Save" button when you have finished selecting all options.
Associating Content Items with Campaigns
Once you have uploaded the banner image, you are given the option to associate a campaign to the banner. Click the orange "Add" button which directs you to the above pictured screen. At this point there are multiple ways to locate the desired campaign you wish to associate it with.
1) The first search field allows you to search for the name of your campaign. If you know the name, or a keyword from the name, type it into the "Name" field.
2) You can also conduct a search based on the minimum (min) width of the banner ads. This can help narrow a search when you do not have the name of the banner ad. It can also help you find images that fit into a particular slot.
3) You can also conduct a search based on the maximum (max) width of the banner ads. This can help narrow a search when you do not have the name of the banner ad. It can also help you find images that fit into a particular slot.
4) Select the "Search" option. The matching results will be returned.
5) Locate the campaign(s) that the banner image should be associated with. Click the "+Add" button.
6) Select the "Close" option.
The campaigns selected will display on the "Add Content Item" page under the "Campaign(s)" section.
1) Next, enter the "From" date range indicating the date when the item should begin appearing.
2) Enter the "To" date range indicating the date when the item should stop appearing. Note that if no dates are specified, the item will stay in effect until it is edited or deleted.
3) Then, enter the weight that should be given to the item. The weight indicates how frequently the item should appear within the rotation of other items included in the campaign. The weight of all items included in a campaign should total 100. A higher weight will cause the item to appear more often.
4) Finally, click "Save" when you have finished entering all Content Item information.
Confirming the Addition of the Content Item
After you save the item, you will be directed back to the main "Content Items Administration" page. You should see your new item listed on the page to confirm that everything has saved correctly. Mousing over the "?" icon will display the date the item was created and last modified.
Front-End Display
You should also be able to see your new Content Item added to the rotation when you search for terms that trigger the ad campaign. If you do not see the item the first time that you execute the conditions set to trigger the campaign, do a few additional searches to refresh the page as there may be other items associated with the campaign that are also eligible for display. When you click on the "?" icon, you will see the triggers that are associated with that item.
